Allison So graduated from the Royal College of Music in London. He obtained the Bachelor of Music from University of London, Master of Music and Diploma in Advanced Music Studies from University of Reading, Master of Art in Chinese Culture from HK Polytechnic University, and Doctor of Education from University of Leicester.
He has been active in the music scene for years, as soloist, accompanist and choral conductor. He was invited twice by the Hong Kong Cultural Centre to give organ recitals and as guest host for various radio programme. In 2013, he was one of the casts and pianist for the musical This is My Story, This is My Song – The Life and Songs of Fanny Crosby.
He is also a columnist in newspaper, magazines, as well as publishing academic journal articles and edited books. He is one of the authors of the book ‘Huang Zi’s Choral Literature Collection’ published by Longman in 2004; and featured as pianist for a CD recording on selected songs by Huang Zi, produced by Hugo in 2011. He also composed sacred music for the Catholic liturgy.
He was Assistant Professor at The Education University of Hong Kong for over twenty years. At present, he is the Supervisor of the Hong Kong Music Institute, vice-chairman of Hong Kong International Musician Association – Hong Kong Region, and vice-chairman of the Sacred Music Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong.
