Franz Liszt was a Hungarian composer, teacher and virtuoso of the 19th century. He was a renowned performer throughout Europe, noted especially for his showmanship and great skill with the piano. As one of the representatives of Romanticism in music, he is acclaimed as the “Piano King” (also known as the “Piano Virtuoso”). In 2011, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Franz Liszt’s birth, Hungary designated that year as “Liszt Year.” Since Liszt had resided in France, the French Ministry of Culture also declared 2011 as “Liszt Year” as a tribute to the “Piano King.” Simultaneously, numerous countries worldwide organized various cultural events to honor this great figure. In response to the global commemoration of Liszt, the Hong Kong International Musician Association organized the Liszt Memorial Prizes International Piano Open Competition. During the event, judges from various countries held Liszt-themed concerts, lectures on Liszt’s works, and masterclasses. The event was a tremendous success, earning a good reputation and widespread influence in the international classical music community. Since then, the Liszt Memorial Prizes International Piano Open Competition has been held every two years in different countries or regions globally.
HONGKONG INTERNATIONAL MUSICIAN ASSOCIATION has been focusing on international art communication and artistic level qualification. The IMA.HK aims to offer an international stage for all musicians to communicate and develop further through holding concert, masterclasses, forums, lectures and competitions around the world at regular intervals.
