Sheng-chung Wu studied Music and Mathematics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he received training from the eminent Hong Kong pianist Raymond Young. Upon graduation, Wu traveled to Moscow and entered the Moscow P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatoire, specialized in piano performance. After finishing the 5-year Basic Course, he was admitted to the post-graduate school, studying two programmes: piano performance and chamber ensemble. In 2009 Wu obtained his doctorate, he is the first musician from the Hong Kong and Macao region to graduate from the institution. In his student years Wu got numerous prizes in international piano competitions in Russia and Europe, and started giving concerts regularly in Russia, Poland, Korea, China, Hong Kong and Macau.
Since returning to his home country, Wu has been active in concertizing, pedagogical and charity activities, promoting music, arts and culture. Wu currently teaches at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Education University of Hong Kong, he is also a visiting professor at various universities in China, such as Huizhou University, Jinzhong Teachers College and Xinzhou Teachers University.
Wu frequently sits on the jury in various music competitions, including the Sino-Korean International Exchange Music Competition Hong Kong – Asia Piano Open Competition, Macau – Asia Piano Open Competition, Hong Kong Children and Youth Piano Competition, Hong Kong International Piano Open Competition (Chopin and Liszt Memorial Prizes). He was the President of Jury in the Preliminary Competitions of Chopin and Liszt Memorial Prizes in Beijing, West Guangdong and Huizhou regions.
